Frequently asked questions
Is Stranley free?
Yes. Stranley is completely free to use. There are no subscriptions, coins or hidden fees.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Open the chat and click “Start chatting”. You're matched with a random stranger in seconds without giving us your name, email or phone number.
How does interest matching work?
Add up to five interests before you start. Stranley prioritises strangers who share at least one of them, and falls back to a random match if no one with the same interests is online.
Can I see where my stranger is from?
Roughly. A small flag next to each name shows the person's country, based on their connection or browser settings. Nothing more precise than the country is shown.
Does Stranley have video chat?
No. Stranley is text-only, so you never need a camera or microphone.
Is Stranley a good Omegle alternative?
Omegle shut down in November 2023. Stranley brings back its classic one-on-one text chat with strangers, with interest matching, a one-click skip and built-in reporting.
How do I stay safe while chatting with strangers?
Never share personal information such as your full name, address, school, workplace or passwords. Skip anyone who makes you uncomfortable and use the report button for abuse.
